These categories indicate the type of record keys within the dataset, in particular whether the dataset is anonymised, pseudonymised, or neither. Note that the categorisation applied in any particular case (if one is supplied) is based upon the description provided by the data controller / manager. The classification is therefore based on the data controller's understanding of the relevant terms. No attempt is made to apply a standardised criteria, because the meaning of the words used ('pseudonymised'. 'anonymised', etc.) may vary between different legal jurisdictions, over time, and in different usage contexts. The categorisation should therefore be read as only a very approximate guide to any legal requirements associated with the data.
